Boards and commissions serve the state in a number of capacities. They function to obtain information, set policy, provide professional licenses, and regulate industries. Boards and Commissions address issues affecting almost every aspect of New Mexico life including but not limited to: Economic Development, Livestock, Education, Higher Education, Water, Housing and Gaming. Appointees to boards and commissions encompass a broad spectrum of individuals from throughout the state who are knowledgeable and possess expertise pertaining to their designated seat. The majority of members are volunteers who serve at the pleasure of the Governor. "Boards and commissions are a key element of our state government.
