Boards & Commissions

The Office of the Governor directs over 300 boards and commissions, which are established by state constitution, state statute, or executive order. Boards and commissions serve the state in a number of capacities. They function to obtain information, set policy, provide professional licenses, and regulate industries. Boards and Commissions address issues affecting almost every aspect of New Mexico life including but not limited to: Economic Development, Livestock, Education, Higher Education, Water, Housing and Gaming. Appointees to boards and commissions encompass a broad spectrum of individuals from throughout the state who are knowledgeable and possess expertise pertaining to their designated seat. The majority of members are volunteers who serve at the pleasure of the Governor.

"Boards and commissions are a key element of our state government. To serve as a board or commission member is one of the best ways for a citizen to participate in state government and to help my administration Move New Mexico forward. I encourage anyone who would like to make a difference to apply for one of these positions."

-Governor Bill Richardson
