
Arturo Jaramillo, Secretary
General Services Department
Arturo L. Jaramillo was raised in Santa Fe and is a fourteenth generation New Mexican.
He received a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of New Mexico and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Santa Clara School of Law, graduating magna cum laude.
As Cabinet Secretary for the General Services Department, he oversees the department that provides all the essential resources -- space, equipment, IT and communication services for state agencies.
The State Bar of New Mexico awarded Jaramillo the prestigious Pioneer Award in 2004, for the development of continuing education programming in the field of "Emotional Intelligence." He currently chairs the State Bar Committee on Diversity in the Profession and serves on the faculty of the State Bar of New Mexico Leadership Training Institute. Jaramillo was the first Hispanic to be elected President of the State Bar of New Mexico in 1993.
For nearly 26 years, Jaramillo was a successful trial lawyer and senior shareholder with the Santa Fe law firm of Jones, Snead, Wertheim, Wentworth and Jaramillo, P.A. His litigation practice with the Jones firm was primarily in the fields of complex commercial, corporate, insurance, state taxation, employment and regulated industry litigation.
Jaramillo is married to Jayne J. Montoya and the father of two grown children, Matthew and Vanessa Jaramillo. He is the proud grandfather of Charleigh Jaramillo.
