Cabinet members serve at the Governor's discretion and together form a constructive advisory board in assisting the Governor's in running the affairs of state, with reporting duties based on their respective agencies. Currently, the Governor’s Cabinet is comprised of Secretaries and Directors of nearly thirty agencies each of whom deal with particular issues the Governor deems as an important part of the overall health of our state and its people.


Adjutant General Kenny Montoya

Military Affairs

Brigadier General Kenny C. Montoya assumed the duties as Adjutant General for the New Mexico National Guard, Santa Fe, NM on April 26, 2003. As Adjutant General he commands the Army and Air National Guard, as well as serves as the commander of the State Defense Force. In addition to his federal duties, Brigadier General Montoya serves as military chief of staff to the Governor and as the Governor’s principal advisor on military affairs. He is also president of the State Armory Board and provides oversight for the New Mexico Civil Air Patrol.   Brigadier General Montoya holds a Juris Doctor degree and two Master Degrees. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College.   He has been awarded the Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge.
