Home > Governor's Initiatives > Performance Review Performance ReviewDear citizens of New Mexico, I believe government must be managed in a fiscally responsible manner, and that every government program, indeed, every government employee, must be held accountable to you the taxpayers. My administration will continue to challenge and question the way we do business to make sure every tax dollar is spent wisely. That’s why I initiated a Performance Review to look at state services and operations in order to save money and improve services. The Performance Review focuses on the six priority issues of health, human resources, information and telecommunications management, transportations, corrections, and contract management. The goal of this top-to-bottom review of state government is to ensure that New Mexican's are getting the best possible services at the least possible cost. When I was elected one of my first acts was to create a 1-800 number so you could share your ideas with me. The results were overwhelming and we received some great ideas. I will continue to reach out to you, the people of New Mexico, to help me in identifying ways to make our state government better. With your help, the Performance Review team has developed ways to successfully achieve a better state government for all of New Mexico. We are putting your ideas to work, and I will keep you posted on our progress and results. Thank you, Bill Richardson In August 2003, I released Moving New Mexico Forward report and Executive Summary. It was the first of a two-phase performance review and contained 92 recommendations covering a wide range of ideas for saving money, increasing efficiency, collecting delinquent taxes, and improving customer service throughout state government. While this new report suggests significant savings – more than $65 million over five years – the focus this time is more long-term, focusing on ways to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of state government and improve the results for our customers, the citizens of New Mexico. Future reports, annual comprehensive follow-ups and quarterly summary follow-ups, will address the progress made towards implementation of the recommendations contained in both reports including implementation plans, performance measures, and results.
