Cabinet members serve at the Governor's discretion and together form a constructive advisory board in assisting the Governor's in running the affairs of state, with reporting duties based on their respective agencies. Currently, the Governor’s Cabinet is comprised of Secretaries and Directors of nearly thirty agencies each of whom deal with particular issues the Governor deems as an important part of the overall health of our state and its people.

 

Ron Curry, Secretary

Environment Department

Since the first of January 2003, Ron Curry has served as Secretary of the New Mexico Environment Department for Governor Bill Richardson. His deep commitment toward environmental issues began in the early 1980's while working for CEI Enterprises.

Secretary Curry developed the first environmental strategic plan for the Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), worked on an Environmental Impact Statement for Los Alamos National Laboratory and represented both the New Mexico Environmental Law Center and the Coalition for Clean and Affordable Energy before the State Legislature. In the early 1990’s, Secretary Curry served as the Environment Department’s first Deputy Secretary. From 1997-1998, he served as Santa Fe City Manager.

Born in Hobbs and raised in Albuquerque, Secretary Curry is also an avid balloonist. He has flown KKOB Radio’s flagship hot air balloon at rallies around the state for 25 years. Secretary Curry has two grown children and lives in Albuquerque.
