Special Assistant
New Mexico Environment Department
The New Mexico Environment Department’s (NMED) mission is to protect and restore the environment and to foster a healthy and prosperous New Mexico for present and future generations. We implement our mission guided by four tenets:

The Special Assistant is appointed by the Governor and serves at the pleasure of the Governor, and works closely with the Cabinet Secretary, Deputy Cabinet Secretaries, Division Directors and Bureau Chiefs.
The Special Assistant must demonstrate an ability to work in a dynamic and unstructured environment, both independently and in a team environment. The Special Assistant must be able to work under pressure on competing responsibilities with resilience, discretion, and diplomacy. The Special Assistant primary duties include managing executive office logistics and planning; maintaining extensive communication and coordination with a variety of executive-level individuals; and taking initiative to resolve challenges and problems. In addition, the Special Assistant manages special projects which may include conducting research, preparing materials, managing contracts, etc. Travel may be required with this position.
The ideal candidate will proudly represent the Administration and Department with exceptional leadership skills in customer service. In addition, the ideal candidate will must be confident in working with people in both a structured and unstructured environment, managing multiple projects with competing deadlines, and possess exceptional communication skills.
The Governor’s Office and Department expect to fill this position as soon as possible. The salary for this position is between $50,000 and 75,000 annually, based on experience. This position is eligible for part-time telework and may be located in the Albuquerque or Santa Fe office of NMED.
