DEPUTY CABINET SECRETARY

New Mexico Human Services Department

The Mission of HSD is to transform lives. Working with our partners, we design and deliver innovative, high quality health and human services that improve the security and promote independence for New Mexicans in their communities.

The Human Services Department (HSD) provides services to 1,141,673 New Mexicans across the state. HSD meets the needs of New Mexicans in a transparent and accountable manner.

This position provides leadership and oversight of the Office of Human Resources, Incident Management, Emergency Preparedness, Income Support Division, and the Behavioral Health Services Divisions. It has 5 direct reports who oversee over 900 full time equivalents (FTEs).

The position is responsible for budget management, strategic planning, constituent relations, and community engagement. This position provides direction and oversight to ensure federal compliance with all laws regulating the services provided.

Additionally, this Deputy Secretary is responsible for managing the bill review process for the legislative session well as leadership and supervisory oversight during legislative sessions.

This Deputy Secretary must have strong collaboration skills, be highly organized, effectually multi-task and communicate well with the Department Secretary.
