Governor travels to Ireland on trade mission

SANTA FE ─ Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham traveled to Ireland late Tuesday as part of a trade mission to explore economic opportunities between Ireland and New Mexico.

During the Ireland trip, Gov. Lujan Grisham will meet with Glanbia CEO Hugh McGuire, Director of Ireland Gas Networks, David Kelly, Ireland’s foreign ministers for energy and trade, and others.

Dan Schlegel, the governor’s chief of staff, Caroline Buerkle, deputy chief of operations in the Governor’s Office, and New Mexico Economic Development Director Rob Black are traveling with the governor. The New Mexico Partnership is paying their travel costs.

The Ireland trade mission builds on a similar visit by Irish officials to New Mexico last year. In August 2025, Dominic Berkeley, Ireland’s Deputy Consul General to the United States, and Head of Cultural Affairs, Síobhra Quinlan, visited New Mexico and met with state legislators, cultural leaders, educators, and others to discuss Ireland's growing engagement across the Southwestern United States.

Gov. Lujan Grisham returns to New Mexico on Monday, Aug. 31. While she is out of the country, Lt. Gov. Howie Morales will preside over New Mexico state government.
