State picks Albuquerque firm to plan State Fairgrounds redevelopment
SANTA FE— The State Fairgrounds redevelopment initiative reached a key milestone today with the General Services Department's selection of Albuquerque-based Hartman + Majewski Design Group to produce a detailed master plan, clearing the way for the state to select an anchor developer in December.
The master plan will guide a new park, pedestrian improvements, mixed housing, mixed-use commercial development and a sports stadium in Albuquerque's International District. The multi-year redevelopment is projected to support about 940 jobs annually over 30 years.
“We're making steady progress on the State Fairgrounds, and each step brings us closer to the day when families in the International District can take pride in a revitalized neighborhood that’s safer and provides more economic, recreational and cultural opportunities for all who call the area home,” said Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham. “Today’s announcement shows that my administration is committed to enhancing quality of life in the International District and all of Albuquerque.”
The General Services Department has issued a request for proposals for an anchor developer and will make their selection in December. The selected developer will use the master plan to build Phase One, which could include housing, parks, an event center and stadium. The state General Services Department will oversee the project development.
“Today’s contract award represents a significant step in establishing the planning and design framework necessary to advance Phase One,” said GSD Cabinet Secretary Anna Silva. “We are excited that this important project is moving steadily in the right direction.”
