Homeland Security secretary resigns

Nov 26, 2019 | Press Releases

SANTA FE – New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Secretary Jackie Lindsey informed Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham this morning that she was resigning, effective immediately.

In her statement to the governor, Secretary Lindsey said, “After careful consideration, I have decided to resign as the Cabinet Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to focus on my family and my health. It has been an honor to serve the citizens of New Mexico and its visitors.”

The governor thanked Secretary Lindsey for her service and wished her well.

Deputy Secretary Kelly Hamilton will serve as acting secretary, ensuring that operations continue as normal in the department, especially during this week’s expected winter weather, when the agency’s Emergency Operations Center will coordinate closely with emergency management officers around the state. DHSEM continues to prepare for and respond to hazardous and emergent situations statewide – the public can stay up to date with the department on Twitter, Facebook, and its website.

A search will begin immediately to fill the role permanently.
