Governor secures resources to support Cotton Fire response – Additional firefighting crews, air support, and shelter services mobilized
SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham obtained federal emergency funding Saturday to send additional firefighting crews, engines and air support to combat the Cotton Fire in Valencia County.
“New Mexican families are facing substantial challenges tonight, and we are mobilizing all available state resources to assist them,” said Gov. Lujan Grisham. “I’m deeply grateful to the firefighters and first responders who continue to battle this fire under challenging circumstances. Additional resources are on the way to enhance local firefighting capacity and protect our communities.”
The additional federal assistance allows the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to bring in supplemental firefighting crews, engines, air support and other personnel to aid local efforts.
The State Emergency Operations Center continues to coordinate resources requested by local emergency managers across the state in response to wildfires and severe weather. A shelter for evacuees in Valencia County has been set up at the Daniel Fernandez Recreation Center, 1103 Highway 314 NW, Los Lunas, NM 87031.
